What is Calcium hypochlorite?
Calcium hypochlorite or Ca(ClO)2 is a solid, inorganic compound commonly used to cleanse household water. It is also used as a water disinfectant in water purification systems and in swimming pools.
When added to water, calcium hypochlorite releases oxygen and chlorine molecules. When used correctly, it can effectively destroy a wide range of pathogens such as bacteria, yeast, fungus, spores, protozoans and viruses that can cause dysentery, diarrhoea, cholera and other water borne illnesses.
What is in our calcium hypochlorite capsules?
The capsules contain laboratory assayed calcium hypochlorite powder. The ingredients in a capsule are calcium and nearly 65% available chlorine. It also contains salt and small amounts of chloride, hydroxide and carbonate. These capsules are different than the pool shock granules, and don’t have the same binders as granules.
If stored properly, at a room temperature and away from moisture and direct sunlight, calcium hypochlorite has a long shelf-life and can even last up to a year without much degradation. Once opened, we recommend use within 90-days given the hygroscopic nature of this compound.
How to use the product to purify your drinking water?
One capsule, when added to 20 litres of water, is sufficient to kill most of disease-causing organisms. Leave the water for at least 30 minutes before using so that the product has enough time to effectively do its job.
Other uses: Sanus-q water purification capsules can be used to purify your water, clean fruit and vegetables, and preserve cut flowers.
As a strong bactericidal agent, calcium hypochlorite is used as a preferred method to decontaminate water, especially where water is not safe and reliable to drink. For example, the product is ideal to use in the aftermath of natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes and floods. You can also use it to purify your drinking water during camping, hiking and other such outdoor activities.
In fact, it is very popular in survivalist circles because of its longer shelf life and ease of use. Calcium hypochlorite retains its effectiveness even after months, unlike household chlorine based products, which degrade faster and lose strength over time. In a nutshell, calcium hypochlorite capsules surpass most other products in terms of efficacy, shelf-life and the amount of water it treats and purifies.
Calcium hypochlorite can also be used in livestock places. (Many other facilities like hospitals and hotels also prefer calcium hypochlorite tablets as a safe and effective disinfecting agent over other methods of using chlorine.)
A useful Tip
We recommend using a pool test kit when you are using calcium hypochlorite capsules to purify your drinking water. It is an inexpensive way to assess whether the chlorine levels in your treated water is safe to use.
About our product
One bottle contains 60 x 400 mg capsules and the package is equipped with a heat seal that guarantees complete airtight shipping and safe storage until you are ready to use the capsules. A lot of effort has gone into identifying and selecting the right materials so that capsules can safely withstand the contained ingredients for a longer time. This makes the product stable with a long shelf-life, as unsuitable ingredients can make capsules thin and brittle – leading to rapid degradation of other products.
The key to use our water purification product is to use it correctly. To do that always read the product’s information and follow the usage/dosage directions exactly. At the same time, we always encourage our readers and product users to do their own research to help determine what is right for them and so they can make a well-informed decision.
